certification raising young
for the second year in a row i didn't pass a certification exam by one point. sometimes i ask if i should give up my time for yoga during the two months period of studying leading to these certification exams. this would add an extra hour and a half of study per day to the studying i do at night. some nights i study mandarin, other nights i study for the certification. yoga keeps me mentally balanced and keeps my body healthy, so this is not a good idea. it's dissapointing that there are these metrics and that by just one point one is short of a certification that is important. i think i know what i have to do. if it took two and a half months to study this year and last year, study three and a half months next time. giving up the yoga slot is going to make sense. people who have passed these certifications while at the same time raising a family, doing so with limited amount to study. one lady passed while raising three young daughters. another person with family gave himself three months to study, since he only had time on saturdays to study. i am not raising kids. so i will need to study longer prior to taking it again. i understand how the brown tree in the picture feels. photo by Leo Yu.

I personally think that certifications and their inevitable fees can sometimes resemble a legalized "shakedown". Sure, professionals have to keep up to date, but one point? We are a world obsessed with measurement. Te deseo suerte en la proxima...
Dear SF, gracias. I should have passed already. They keep raising the bar and making the tests more complicated. I've already obtained a lot of certificates in my life. This one I'm pursuing is a recent one related to sustainability. It's ironic that some people pursue it and don't practice it in their work. I do, while not having the credential. Anyhow, I don't give up. It's just that I want to get over it so I can concentrate on things that are more important to me, such as studying Mandarin, or learning useful new software tools.

Salut Arturo, ça fait un moment, hein? I've been enjoying your photos-- today's are especially crazy! Love coming by here to catch up with your adventures in China. I'm sure next time will be the charm r.e. your green certification. I can relate; no one loves stamps and certifications more than the French! It can be boring-- you could pass your life in "concours" et "stages". Anyway, sorry to have been silent for so long (I'm trying to be less of a creepy lurker ;), I just wanted to say hi and thanks for always posting. I don't want you to feel like that brown tree! You of such genius ideas as the heated yoga blanket-tent! I think you should sell something similar pre-fab for all those who live in chilly old stone houses, for example... in French mountain towns... ;-)
Dear J.
So nice to hear from you! Thanks for your encouragement. I don't give up. Three's a charm, although it would be the first time I would have take something a third time to pass, haha. I've discovered a lot more about my yoga tent. If I leave the electric blanket overnight on, the space is warm when I visit it in the morning. I don't have to heat it up much because the blankets make it retain the warmth. I could come up with an idea, after Grimmly and you are encouraging me. It would mainly have a market in cold climates, though.
With a little more time, I will have new, neat photos of mountains and historic Chinese villages to post soon. The food drying out today on hangers was too unusual not to photograph.

Sorry to hear you didn't catch it this time Arturo. My wife had to gain some certification after three tries last year, same as you, missing out each time by just a couple of points, so i know how frustrating and disappointing it can be, but hey, newt time.
have a good trip.
