Sanzen In Temple is part of the Tendai Buddhist sect. It began as a single structure founded by Saicho (767-822). The temple is nestled among maples and gardens, at the foothills of a forest. Certain members of the imperial family served here in the priesthood during the temple's history.

The Ojo Amida Hall was built in 986 by a priest, Eshin Sozu along with his sister Anyo-ni as a memorial to the souls of their parents.
A statue of Jizo. Zen practitioners like to put a statue of him in patios. He blesses travelers.
There are some recently restored structures in the compound.
The lavatory
Hall of Avalokitesvara Bottisatva, who is known as Guanyin in China. And small statues of the buddha, which must be memorials to family members.
