I went to the shala on automatic pilot. It was a day to do the second half of Primary and the first few of Intermetiate to Laghu Vajrasana. I'm wondering when I will be allowed to Kapo again, but I digress. I settled next to Mrs. Swan. We started at the same time and she practiced up to basically the same pose I finished with, starting with the entire Primary, during the same amount of time. Does that mean I'm getting old?
Cobra Tamer regaled us with her hissing beginning of practice. I giggled. Purple Skiboat did her cobra taming routine also when she started. Two newbies joined us. Sandee D'Oranje was assisting Teacher. I think she's learning how to do so. Green Giant assisted also. My Pasasana was more authentic with his help. I sometimes lose the wrap around both knees and end up wrapping around one only. Everyone helped the newbies, a couple. I don't know how long the guy had been practicing, but he got adjusted in a full padmasana with hand wrapping behing and grabbing toes as well. He was skinny enough. My bothersome left leg is not allowing me to grab my toes more than once a week in this asana. My Ekapada prep for Supta Kurmasana was horrid today - I was stiff. It prompted Teacher to ask me what asana I was doing. It did not resemble any.
The mysterious hot water caper
A problem resolved itself. I'm one of maybe two who need to shower before going to work in the morning after practice. Lately there had not been any hot water when it was my turn. So I carried a hot water kettle with me. Flora suggested I mention it to Teacher. I did not want to because he has enough on his plate. A guy lives in the shala - a kind man who looks like a monk living a lay life. He has a playful cat that gave birth to an adorable oat colored kitten and has a beautiful tea set. In the bathroom he has four koi fish in the tub. One cannot find fault with such a kind man. But I digress. I think that, like most Chinese, he takes his shower in the evenings and to save electricity was turning off the hot water heater afterwards. That was my supposition, which today revealed itself to be correct. When I went to use the bathroom, it was occupied, so I heated water in my kettle in the kitchen. When the person in the bathroom came out, it was him, fresh from a shower. He was wonderning why I was heating water and understood it was for cleaning myself. He said there was hot water. I said, yes, but during the week there wasn't because he probably turned it off before going to work. After I finished, he came to find out if everything worked. He told me I should tell him I needed hot water and he will keep it available. OK, I guess I should trust him and not carry the kettle with me daily. But since going to work sweaty is not an option, if he forgets to leave the water heater on, I think it would be fair to use the kettle in his kitchen to take my bucket shower. Don't you agree?
By the way, if you have read this far, I wanted to add that I have found out that some yoga teachers in Shanghai have been reading my blog. Welcome (simultaneous grin and shudder). They say I'm famous, but I think that is just to two people. Kidding. I'm just a practitioner.

Hi there Arturo. I like your blog! Esp the names for your shalamates. Most amusing! Is your teacher the Green Giant? My teacher is 6'7" and I secretly refer to him as Daddy Long Legs (like the spider) since that's how he moves around the room, all nice and silent-like.
Anyway, just wanted to say hello!
Dear Loo
Thanks! I'm glad to have found your blog too. Your teacher sounds impressive. My teacher is Bamboo Knight. Green Giant assists him. GG is probably 6' tall, but he is thin, lending more visual height to his physique. Both are strong.
Cheers,
Arturo
