downward ding bike

downward dog this morning. i think i may need to start getting up an hour early because my yoga practice is not consistent or strong. i need to find the groove again. that goes for my diet as well. yesterday i went swimming in the gym in our community. i thought that would make me show some weight loss but instead i showed weight gain. it's the peanut butter consumption, plus too many other calories. i think i will start putting a list of all the reasons peanut butter is not a good food. i had not swimmed in a pool in probably two years. you don't forget the swimming strokes. being from an island, i grew up swimming. when i went to college in Notre Dame, they tested our swimming skills in physical education. i did not know how to dive, so they dinged me, assigning me to obligatory swimming classes. actually, that was a useful thing, because i improved my swimming skills. While in Texas, swimming was my main mode of exercise for probably 15 years. i need a ding with respect to yoga now.

this weekend i'm getting together with my Olympian coworker who bicycles about 80 miles daily to and from work, to buy a Dahon foldable bike. i used to drive 80 miles daily in San Antonio between my home, the YMCA downtown for swimming, my work in the southwest part of the city, and the University of Texas in San Antonio in the northwest part of the city, returning after classes to my home in the north east of the city. i can't imagine the effort to bicycle the same distance daily. i'm looking forward to this bicycle, so i can go exploring the neighborhood, or the city on weekends. Pudong is architecturally very interesting and i have still not checked it out fully.

You'll love the bike! I have an Avenir foldable, which is by the same company. It's marvelous. There's no better way to get around the city.

hi Kai
yes, i hear they are an American product and are great. Giant also makes a similar model. i think the one i'm choosing costs about $250 here. you can fold it and take it on the metro.
cheers,
Arturo

Hi Arturo
Isn't funny how our life takes sharp turns in a different direction before we even become aware of it. My CRON diet AND my yoga and meditation practice are both suffering to the point that they almost don't exist, while I am training for my pilgrimage to Santiago. Walking and hiking, which are also very good exercise are consuming most of my time. The CRON suffers because I am famished when I finish walking 3 or 4 hours a day. But I should really do some good yoga stretches to stay limber for walking and I don't make time for it.
Good luck with the new bike. I love cycling...hmmm...that has also taken a back seat.

hi Rita
well, at least you are focusing on energetic, healthy activities. 4 hours a day is a lot of walking. i love hiking. if i recall you live near great places to hike, so you're lucky.

an old boss of mine went on a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, but he did the version by bus, where they stay at a different inn each nite and drink a lot of wine. hehe.

on a trip once in the US by airplane, someone had come from the Santiago de Compostela journey and was carrying one of the wood sticks that they give the pilgrims. he would not part with it, so he brought it in the cabin and the crew found a place for it. that was prior to the current security measures.

cheers,
Arturo

hi Joy Suzanne
hey maybe your friend that comes to Shanghai for work once in a while could pick one up for you. they fit in a suitcase. i'm not exactly sure that the price is cheaper than in the States, though. i priced mine to the same in Amazon and the starting prices are about the same, then they go way up for more complicated models. i think mine is the latest model, but the price is comparable to the US, except no additional costs for shipping or taxes.
cheers,
Arturo
